The Swordsman In Love Mittens
Hearts all over, a sword that breaks through the Latvian braid into the cuff, and picot edging.
Pattern development notes: These mittens started with a diamond pattern that I saw a woman wearing at the store, when we were getting ice cream cones. The diamond pattern was too busy to work well for a knitting pattern, so I started playing with it, to open it up a bit, and hearts began sneaking in. I’d decided that I wanted to do another pair of mittens with a broken braid. A sword seemed a likely thing to set into the cuff.
This pattern is appropriate for an intermediate colorwork knitter. It includes instructions for the braids. The chart is color coded.
A sport weight yarn could also be used for this pattern, as long as it is knit to the gauge of 8 sts and 8 rows/inch.
Size:
Women’s medium. 10cm, (4 inches), wide. 25 cm, (10 inches), length from cuff to tip.
I used approximately: 105m (115 yds), of white and 170m (185 yds), of red. Testers used less.
