The Snow Queen Jacket
A mid-thigh length jacket, knit from the bottom hem up, with hems and front bands trimmed with knit/purl snowflake motifs. The jacket is cast on at the bottom hem and worked back and forth up through the waist shaping to the underarms. The body is then placed on hold and the sleeves are knit from the hem up to the underarms. The sleeves and body are joined and shoulders are worked with raglan shaping. The collar is knit in one with the jacket. Minimal seaming at the underarms finishes the jacket.
Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale focuses on the classic struggle between good and evil, as told through two small children. The boy, Kai, is taken under the protection of the Snow Queen after he is attacked by an evil troll. She takes him to live with her in her palace at the North Pole. Gerda, however, pines for her friend, and sets off to find him at the Snow Queen’s palace. There, she is able to pass several tests and free Kai to return home with her.
This design is part of the larger Legendary Knits, volume 2, collection.
