The Season of Stripe
Every year when spring comes, my eyes go to those fresh striped t-shirts.
So I have decided to design and knit for myself this year!!
This summer top has all the fun elements.
- Of course STRIPES! which become wide to skinny from bottom to top. Front and back are different stripe design, but they kind of match on the side nicely.
- Side openings for flattering look.
- Longer back.
- Peek-a-boo shoulder openings. (If you don’t want to them open, you can simply seam the shoulders. - Although you might want to add extra rows. Please see the SIZE section below. )
- Just right scoop neck, not too deep.
- Quick knit. You knit only two pieces, front and back. Cap sleeves are done with underarm shaping and short-row. Striping also makes a bit boring stockinette knitting more interesting.
YARN
The photos shown are knitted with Berroco “Modern cotton”. Very reasonable machine washable yarn. Great for a summer top like this one. 40% model adds nice drapes and so soft directly on your skin.
I am making my second one with Lang “LINO”. I have made RELAX v-neck modern shaped pullover and RELAX pullover with this yarn. This is another great summer yarn. 100% linen feels great! It will be a little bit open gauge, so I might need to wear camisole underneath. Classic navy with white base. I will add photos when I finish it!!
NEEDLES
I knitted the whole thing with US #6 needles. Straight and 16” circular. (Using #5 for 100% linen yarn now.)
As usual, please check the gauge and adjust the needle size.
If your garter sts gauge is looser than St.st gauge, please use one size smaller size needles for garter sts of bottom, armhole and neck.
SIZE
S (M, L, XL, XXL)
Finished chest 34 (38, 40, 42, 46)“
Length, Back / 24 (24.5, 25, 25.75, 26.75)”
Length, Front / 23 (23.5, 24, 24.75, 25.75)”
Armhole / 13.5 (14.5, 15.75, 17, 18)”
The photos shown are S size.Stripes are worked all the same with different sizes, only the top main color section is different. Bigger size has more rows in that section.
If you are not making shoulder openings, you might want to add some extra rows after the last stripes both Front and Back to have more room for upper arm. (Instructions - Back #6, Front #6, both after last 2 rows of color A stripe. )
Errata
Back #9 - Row7 - P12 (14, 14, 15, 16)
Front #9 - Row17 - P12 (14, 14, 15, 16)
