PDF for the Lizard Amigurumi Crochet Pattern Only, not the Finished Product
Your eyes blink open, squinting at the filtered morning light that’s made its way to the forest floor…
Take the role of a lizard on an adventure as you crochet your unique Amigurumi design. An interactive choose-your-own-adventure story is at the core of this pattern, where each choice directs you to a different piece to craft for your lizard. With 6 different heads, 3 body styles (each attached two different ways), 2 arm options, 2 leg options, 6 tails, 6 add-ons, and 6 accessories, there are 552,960 ways to use the interchangeable parts and have a lizard all your own. Want to share your make, or copy someone else’s? That’s made easy with a name for your lizard generated as you make your choices through the story, crafting a unique seed so others can follow the same journey.
With a 2.75mm hook, and DK weight yarn, the lizards all measure around 12-15cm (~5-6in) depending on the choices made. Instructions are included for a semi-poseable head and limbs with no extra materials needed, adding to the play-value of these toys as they can freely move their arms, sit, and stand without extra support. With so many options, it’s easy to create a whole set of lizards, each with their own character. They’re perfect for gifts, desk buddies, and for including children in the creation process.
The story itself was written with all ages and backgrounds in mind. It doesn’t contain violence, and is suitable to be read to children so they can help make the choices and design their lizard. That being said, there are a couple of lizard things added in, like eating bugs, being afraid of birds and a snake, and descriptions of dark forests and haunting songs. If these may worry your child, please feel free to omit them! I hope the story doesn’t just create the character, but inspires the imagination to continue the journey.

Thank you so much for having me to test this, I LOVE MY LITTLE GUYS and my husband even said they’re the coolest ever so kudos to you and the lore you’ve created!! – @chaosaunty
I loved the story and I couldn’t help but think about making the blue lizard with a randomised choice using this pattern. I’m truly in love with my little guy and feel like I need a whole army of lizards. There are so many options and with the different body parts you can make over 400 different lizards. I would happily pay £15-20 GBP as it includes a cute interactive story, well written instructions and guide photos and it will keep anyone busy for a very long time. – @craftybee.crochet
I just want to say I LOVE this pattern – my lizard is basically the coolest guy ever. – @gremlingirl_art
Excellent pattern. Well written and easy to follow. The story line was fun as well. Made it exciting not knowing what I was going to end up with. I’ll be making another with specific ideas in mind, but it was enjoyable this way first. - @classycraftsbymel
Materials Needed
➔ Yarn – The pattern is made for DK weight yarn, but being amigurumi, gauge isn’t super important (as long as it’s tight), and you can easily switch it out for a different weight. Just make sure all the yarn used is the same weight and it should still work. I’ve used Classic 8PLY Wool from Bendigo Woollen Mills for my lizard. I haven’t specified colours through this pattern, as you can feel free to play with whatever colours you would like! Measuring the largest options brings me to about 120 metres (131 yards) of yarn for one lizard, though this will change depending on your yarn used, gauge, and options chosen.
➔ 2.75mm crochet hook to keep the stitches nice and tight. Depending on your yarn you may need to go up or down sizes to match.
➔ Stuffing
➔ Sewing pins to keep things in place as you stitch them together (not absolutely necessary, but can help keep things from sliding around)
➔ Stitch marker to keep track of rounds (I use an extra little piece of yarn)
➔ Yarn needle (or smaller if you prefer to attach pieces with thread), scissors
➔ One six-sided dice (or any online random number generator) if you’d like to randomise the pattern
