The Light Gets In
Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack, a crack in everything
(there is a crack in everything) That’s how the light gets in
—Leonard Cohen
This pattern was originally designed for the 2018 Chicago Yarn Crawl. We chose to highlight June Cashmere because we love their story as much as the yarn:
June Cashmere’s 100% cashmere fiber is collected directly from Kyrgyz shepherds living on small family farms along the ancient Silk Road amidst the soaring mountains of Central Asia. This company actively invests in the communities where the cashmere is gathered and seeks to make Kyrgyz cashmere an engine for social and economic transformation.
The stitch pattern is a meditative sequence, so your mind can rest on the story and softness of the June Cashmere yarn.
Since June Cashmere is harder to get these days, we made a second sample in Manos del Uruguay Silk Blend.
Notes:
- Slipped stitches draw the fabric in. For that reason, you use a much bigger needle in that section so that the gauge matches that of the ribbing. Of course, you may need to adjust needle size based on your knitting.
- When choosing your colors, make sure that C2 contrasts with both C1 and C3.
- The pattern uses approximately 75 yards of each color.
