Wearing an ivy crown was once a symbol of eternity, fidelity, and strong affectionate attachment. Wearing the Ivy Crown hat can represent all of those noble attributes, as well as the ability to look stylish, show off your knitting, and keep your head warm. Not a bad thing, right?

This stranded colorwork hat is knitted in the round from the bottom up, starting with a six round folded hem. The crown is formed by using central double decreases to shape the top of the hat.

The ivy motifs are asymmetrical, much like the botanical counterparts, but oh, so fun to knit. Use your markers to separate the sections and you’ll have no trouble. You will end up with a fun Ivy Crown…and fidelity…at the cast off.

Finished size:
21 in. (53 cm) around base, 10 in. (25 cm) bottom to top. (Note: Use larger needles for larger size.)

32 sts/34 rnds = 4 in. (10.16 cm)

Yarn – Elemental Affects – Shetland, 100% American Shetland, 118 yd/28g (1 oz)

Shade A – Dark Purple - 150 yds
Shade B - Forest Moss – 110 yds
Shade C – Mustard Field – 40 yds

Needles - US 1 (2.25 mm) and US 3 (3.25 mm) needles for preferred method of working small circumferences (i.e. 2 circulars, Magic Loop, or double pointed needles).
