The Hug Shrug is finally here! this is the perfect shrug cardigan to just throw on while at home. Its cosy and warm without being cumbersome and in the way. The front is open but the ribbed sleeve cuffs means it doesn’t get in the way of your hands when your going about your day.

This Shrug is designed to be knit at any gauge ranging from 3sts/inch to 6sts per inch and everything in between! You can also customise your sizing by choosing your height and width combination for the shrug and then the Meterage table will helpfully let you know how much yarn you will need in order to knit your desired size at your chosen gauge.

The Hug Shrug is knit as one large rectangular piece which is then blocked to measurements. Once blocked it is folded in half by lining up the Bind off Edge with the Cast on Edge and the sides are seamed together partially to create the arm holes (see schematics). Stitches are then picked up for the cuffs (this step is optional, but the meterage calculations have already made allowances for this), and a few inches of ribbing is knit for each sleeve cuff before casting off to complete the shrug.

Yarn & Sizing Info
Please note this pattern is written to accommodate 7 different gauges from Bulky to Fingering weight, with 13 different length options and 15 different width options to suit as many knitters as possible.

As there are over 1,360 different combinations that can be used to knit this design, I have included meterage information in a separate PDF document that you get with this pattern. So, you can check based on your gauge and measurements what your estimated Meterage requirements will be.

Meterage Ranges for each Gauge in the pattern are as follows:

• 3sts per inch – 450 – 1530m (approx. Bulky Weight)
• 3.5sts per inch – 479 – 1629m (approx. Aran/Bulky Weight)
• 4 sts per inch – 581 – 1975m (approx Worsted / Aran Weight)
• 4.5sts per inch – 624 – 2123m (approx. DK/Worsted Weight)
• 5 sts per inch – 741 – 2518m (approx DK/Worsted Weight)
• 5.5 sts per inch – 893 – 3036m (approx. Sport/Fingering Weight)
• 6 sts per inch – 1104 – 3752m (approx. Fingering Weight)

For the sample shown I used 1000gm of Bulky weight yarn (274m/300yrds per 250gm) - from Lavender Lune Yarn Co in their 100% Superwash Merino Bulky Weight in the Séance Colourway.

The sample pullover is modelled in the 50” width and the 33” length option, with bulky weight yarn at the 3sts per inch gauge.

Needles
6.5mm (US10.5), 8mm (US11) 40inch (100cm) circulars to accommodate large number of stitches. (Note the needles used are for the Bulky weight sample and you will need to use different needles to suit the yarn and gauge you want if you choose to use a different yarn (for the sample the gauge needle was 6.5mm / US10.5). Keep in mind you will need a needle 1-2 sizes larger than your gauge needle.

If you are unsure which needle size to use to for your yarn, then you can check the table of yarn weights and suggested needle sizes from the Craft Yarn Council which can be found on Page 3.

Gauge
Again please note this pattern is written for 7 different gauges. However; the sample gauge is 12 sts in 4 inches / 10 cm, worked flat in garter stitch with 6.5mm (US10.5) needles (after blocking), when knitting the sample out of the specified yarn in the pattern. Your gauge will vary if you choose to use a different weight of yarn and corresponding needle size.
