The Friendly Giant Shawl
This pattern is one of 4 patterns in the For the Love of Stories eBook. Unfortunately, individual pattern purchases cannot be credited toward the purchase of the eBook.
Join me in my group, Heather Anderson Designs, and let’s knit!
Wrap yourself up in either size of this comfy shawl and enjoy a good book…perhaps even this shawl’s inspiration— The BFG by Roald Dahl. Knit from the top center out, this shawl is nothing if not big and friendly—like the BFG (Big Friendly Giant) himself! The bubbles of the fizzy drink “frobscottle” inspire the body pattern. The cabled edging is reminiscent of “snozzcumbers”…the foul vegetable that makes up most of the giant’s diet.
This shawl is also a fun opportunity to learn something new. You create the bubbles of the body by working extra rows of stockinette on a small number of stitches (no wrap and turn involved). Instead of turning your work to purl back on a small number of stitches, you may choose to knit back left to right or “backwards” (helpful hints included).
