The northern flicker is a member of the woodpecker family. Many species of woodpeckers are known as symbols of balance, rhythm, connection, and luck. Even more, the flicker is a protected bird in the United States and is seen as a sacred symbol of fire, drumming, and medicine in several Native American tribes. Similarly to eagle feathers, the possession of a flicker feather is a privilege that is protected and reserved for Native ceremonies and regalia. This flicker feather pillow gives center stage to the symbolic and intricate beauty of this bird’s plumage.

You will need:
Approx. 600 yards of worsted weight yarn in your main color and approx 100 yards each in three secondary colors. (I used one skein of Caron One Pound in mustard and one average sized skein of standard worsted weight yarn in peach, brown, and ivory, with plenty of yarn in each color left over.)
Size H/5mm crochet hook
Scissors
Yarn needle
Measuring tape
20” x 20” throw pillow insert or polyester fiberfill to stuff your pillow with.

Single crochet (sc)

Pattern difficulty: easy (not advised for beginners due to use of a grid and several color changes throughout the pattern, but someone who has a bit of experience with both of these can complete the pattern with ease.)
