The pattern calls for the old Oregon Worsted from Interlacements which was 100% wool and 685 yds. The yarn gets split into two balls. The large probably needs the whole 685 yards and the smaller sizes should use less.

There is no row gauge because the vest is knit in two pieces and seamed down the back.
