Pattern Description from Victorian Lace Today: “This shawl began as a pattern for the crown of a baby’s cap by Mrs. Gaugain (1840), was extended to a shawl by Weldon’s (1886) and is now reproduced with a similar (not identical) border by Mrs Hope (1847).”
Difficulty: Intermediate Lace
Measurements: 74” diameter
Yarn Weight/Yardage: #2 Fine Weight / 1700 yds
Yarn & Colorway: ROWAN Kidsilk Haze 8 balls in 606 Candy Girl
Needles:
- 4.5mm/US 7 circular needles, or size to obtain gauge, 40-100cm (16-40”) long as stitch number increases
- One 4.5mm/US 7 double-pointed needles
Notions:
- Stitch markers
- Blunt needle
Notes:
- Begin with double-pointed needles (dpn); change to 16” circular, then to longer circulars as number of stitches increases.
- Place markers between each section of shawl.
