This hat is inspired by the work of Kaffe Fassett, a gifted painter, designer, and teacher, who famously took up knitting on a train trip from Inverness, Scotland. He changed the approach to “colorwork” knitting forever. Before you start the project, take some time to look at his work!
The listing of yarns should be used as a guide for your own colorways. Fingering, sock, sport and lace mohair yarns are held together to create the interplay of colors and textures. In the chart key, it will indicate which yarns are combined for the Fair Isle band.
If you do not have yarns of this weight in your stash, mini skeins of sock yarn are readily available and great for colorwork. If preferred, use sport weight or light DK yarns singly that give the correct gauge. Once you have selected and sampled your colors, Tessa knits up fast!
