The Telmarine Cap is inspired by CS Lewis’ Voyage of the Dawn Treader and specifically the inhabitants of the Lone Islands, out there in the Eastern Sea.

I imagine the mariners of Narrowhaven on Doorn wearing them in blue or red, bright nautical colours, and the shepherds of Felimath having them in more muted browns and greens and natural undyed wool (of course, they’re the ones with the sheep). The vineyard workers and farmers of Avra have them in whatever colours they can think of!

It’s an intermediate knit, including corrugated ribbing, Vikkel Braid, and a tassel, although all of these techniques are carefully described in the instructions. The cap is knitted in the round, there is a bit of I-cord, and it can be a little fiddly setting up the first few rounds.

It takes about two thirds of a skein of sock yarn for the main colour, with oddments for the contrast. Of course, should you make it longer, more yarn will be required. It’s a slouchy cap, and can contain a multitude of hair if necessary.

Only one size is given; it will stretch to fit a big adult head, and be comfortably slouchy on a really small one.
