Tearific Scarf is a simple yet stylish accessory with a twist. It is worked in two identical pieces from the bottom up and joined at the center using modified three-needle bind-off.

The main fabric features a 3×2 rib with lace inserts created using double yarn overs and simple decreases. The highlight is the cut fringe, made with a unique technique. But you can skip it for a clean, elegant finish.

This tutorial gives you detailed step-by-step instructions for the whole process, including written instructions, charts, photo- and video-tutorials.

Yarn

Recommended: DK weight 90-110 m / 100-120 yds per 50 g / 1.8 oz).

My blue scarf was knit with two yarns held together:
Schoppel ‘Zauberball Crazy’ (75% virgin wool, 25% nylon - 420 m / 460 yds per 100 g / 3.6 oz) and African Expression Hope (80% mohair, 20% polyamide - 212 m / 250 yds per 25 g / 0.9 oz).

My green scarf was knit with:
Cowgirlblues ‘Merino Twist’ (100 % wool superwash – 150 m / 165 yds per 50 g / 1.8 oz) and Cowgirlblues ‘Kidsilk’ (70 % mohair, 30 % silk – 205 m / 224 yds per 25 g / 0.9 oz.

Substitutes: you can use any yarn combination that gives you a suitable gauge and fabric drape. Since this is a scarf, you don’t need to match the exact gauge and are free to choose any yarn that suits you best. I recommend using mélange or gradient yarn for an especially interesting design.
