Probably you might find “Tarte Tatin” a strange name for a striped lace shawl…

It all starts from when, for realizing it, I’ve chosen a nicely draping lace stitch pattern, equally pleasant on both sides of the knitting and a symmetrical triangular bottom-up construction with one increase at each edge in every other row.

To my surprise, immediately after starting my sample, I noticed that its shape was different from the expected.

I’ve obtained a right triangle instead of an isosceles one.

I had left out a “small” detail missing to consider that the diagonal stitch pattern generated a parallelogram-shaped swatch which affected the width of the triangle angles.

The final version of “Tarte Tatin Shawl“ comes from this forgetfulness.

To reach the desired shape I’ve added, to the right-hand half worked knit wise, a left-hand one knitted purl wise so that the shawl shows two different halves and both sides beautifully identical.
All nicely finished with a 2 stitches I-cord selvedges and bind off.

How a happy chance brought me to such a satisfactory result!
