Tangled Galashiels 2026
Inspired by Bernat Klein’s use of colour and texture, this beautiful shawl is a fun project to play with any 3 (or more) contrasting colours of 4ply/ fingering weight yarn.
The shawl is worked in one piece, starting from the top down and in slip stitch pattern throughout (1 pattern for the central panel, 1 pattern for the wings).
Further colourplay is achieved by changing the sequence of the colours as the shawl grows.
The slip stitch patterns are short and very easy to memorise, making for a fun and relaxing knit, while the colours and the stitch patterns do all the work. The crescent shape gives the shawl a really nice fit around the shoulders.
The size can be adjusted by working the garter stitch border earlier or later depending on yarn quantities available.
Materials:
- 300g (or more for a bigger shawl) of 4-ply / Fingering / Sock yarn, divided into 3 colours (or 3 groups if using lots of different colours): Light (Yarn B), Medium (Yarn A), Dark (Yarn C).
- 3mm (or size needed to match tension) circular needle, 120cm long
- 8 stitch markers to keep track of increases and different sections of the shawl
