> Swerving Shawl
Swerving Shawl
This top-down shawl is knit in two-color brioche stitch. The asymmetrical shape grows with increases at the edges and center. The columns swerve and shift direction towards the end of the shawl leading to a folded picot hem. Blend your colors together using four colors for the main foreground color and four other colors for the contrasting background.
Finished Measurements
84” / 213cm wingspan length, 28” / 71cm along center spine. Measurements taken after blocking.
Yarn
Sport or Fingering weight
The fluffy suri alpaca on the background is a bit thicker than fingering weight, but you can mix the weights. The suri alpaca forms a super frothy soft background to the smooth merino wool foreground columns.
Yardage
MC - 750yds / 686m
CC - 575yds / 526m
Yardage may vary depending on gauge so I recommend having a bit of extra yarn just in case.
Shown in
MC - Qing Fibre Merino Fingering (100% Merino Wool; 437yds / 400m per 100g skein)
CC - Qing Fibre Melted Baby Suri (65% Baby Suri Alpaca, 20% Merino, 15% Silk; 191yds / 175m per 50g skein)
Green Version
You can change colors whenever you like. For a more gradual color transition, don’t change the MC & CC at the exact same time. You can stagger your color changes. For example, if you change your CC, wait 5-10 rows until your change your MC for a nice overlapping color effect. These are the approximate color change locations for the green sample…
