Sweetwater River Shawl
Kit is available at www.SweaterSisters.com and includes a FREE copy of the pattern, one skein of WayfaringYarns El Dorado in 5 color choices, with or without beads.
The Sweetwater River lace weight shawl is worked from the bottom up, then shaped into a crescent using short rows for the stockinette body. The lace edge is equally lovely with or without beads.
I used 24K gold-dipped Miyuki Delicas in homage to the beautiful Sweetwater River in Wyoming, one of the few documented places where you can still pan for gold!
The sample is knit with one skein of WayfaringYarns hand dyed lace weight El Dorado (70% Baby Alpaca/30% Mulberry Silk, 875 yards/800 m, 100 grams).
Yarn and beads are available at http://www.SweaterSisters.com
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS (after blocking)
Wingspan (measured along the top of the shawl): 64”
Depth (measured down the center): 28”
NOTE: measurements will vary based on gauge, weight and fiber of yarn used and how aggressively you choose to block
MATERIALS
1 skein of WayfaringYarns El Dorado, (70% Baby Alpaca/30% Mulberry Silk), 100g
OR 800 yards of any lace weight yarn
Beads (optional) 374 size 8/0 beads – sample uses Miyuki Delica beads, color: 24K gold dipped
Find the yarn for this project and others at www.SweaterSisters.com– free shipping to US states.
US #5 circular needle 32-40” cable to hold stitches as you work back and forth
Notions required 34 stitch markers for casting on and for lace pattern if desired, tapestry needle, crochet hook for placing beads, blocking supplies
GAUGE
4“ = 20 stitches in stockinette (after blocking)
4” = 32 rows in stockinette (after blocking)
NOTE: Gauge is only important in that it will affect the final measurements of the shawl and the amount of yarn needed to complete the project, as well as the tension and drape of the finished fabric.
- Instead of beading the shawl, you may use mini bobbles, bobbles or nupps, OR you may use none of these. The lace is just as lovely without beads or bobbles. Please note that the yarn requirement is for beading only. If you choose these other knitted options, you will need more yarn.
