This curly-tipped, shallow crescent shawl works up quickly in lacy single crochet v-stitch, with eyelets to add a delicate touch, and picot trim inspired by the petals of Sweet Rocket, a wildflower that blooms every June.

Fun botanical fact: Sweet Rocket is often confused with wild phlox. How can you tell them apart? Sweet Rocket blossoms have four petals each, and phlox blossoms have five. The Sweet Rocket Shawl border has four picots per shell to help you remember this important distinction. :)

Shawl is worked from the top down, starting with an eyelet foundation row. Keep stitch tension relaxed, and be sure to wet-block your shawl for maximum laciness. For a longer or shorter wingspan, work more or fewer foundation eyelets (be sure to end with an odd number).

Skill level: Beginner

Yarn requirements: 400 yards of worsted weight yarn (pattern can be made with any weight yarn and the appropriate size hook).

Sample shown used 375 yards of Red Sock, Blue Sock Yarn Superwash Worsted in Plum Pudding.
