This is a whimsical center out, lacy blanket for our sweet little babies paired with a cute heart bib. The blanket features narrow stripes of eyelet surrounding wide stripes of eyelet hearts. The pattern would look equally appealing in blues or greys for your favorite little boy!

Both the blanket and bib were knit in Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece, a light worsted weight cotton/wool blend on size 6 needles. I decided to work a center out pattern so I could make bands of color without carrying multiple skeins through out. To do this, I started with a provisional cast on, and continued knitting on 2 circulars. The blanket grows as you add stitches at each corner. The finished size of the blanket is approximate 32″x38″

Don’t be put off by the center out knitting. It only requires 3 simple techniques: provisional cast on, knitting with 2 circular needles, and a little patience (what knitter doesn’t need this!). The provisional cast on is new to me, but using 2 circular knitting needles for ‘in the round’ knitting is an old favorite of mine. If you are new to either of these techniques, both are easy to learn. Check out the following references to see for your self:
