Sweet Caroline Shawl
Sweet Caroline (ba ba ba!)
Good times never seemed so good.
I’ve been inclined to believe they never would

Sweet Caroline is a top-down, crescent shaped shawlette using a Shell Lace pattern that melds into a leaf motif. The modified gart-tab-cast-on & shaping of the shawl have been engineered to minimize the “point” that often develops on a top-down crescent shawl.
The project requires 2 skeins Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light(420 yds/~105g), or 1 skein Malabrigo Sock (440 yards/100 g), or approx 420 yards fingering weight yarn.
(Please note that you may only require 1 skein of Tosh Merino Light. These skeins are generally ~110 grams each, but occasionally, I have found a skein to be underweight, in which case, a second skein will be required to complete the project. Additionally, if your gauge is looser than the stated blocked gauge, you will require more yarn as well. Therefore, I recommend 2 skeins of Tosh for the shawlette).
A word about gauge: I blocked the bazinga out of this shawl, and the stated gauge is based on the blocked measurements. However, it’s my experience that stst blocks out a little differently in the crescent shape than it does in a straight up stst swatch or sweater. For example, I generally get 23 st/4” with the recommended needle size and yarns in a typical stst gauge swatch. However, it blocks much wider in this type of pattern.
Pattern includes both written and charted directions for the lace pattern. To modify the pattern to make a larger shawl (requiring more yarn), see this project
