Swain Hat
The Swain Hat is a classic beanie designed to showcase intricate medallion cables and a deep ribbed brim. Even better, these cables create a unique fabric on the wrong side, giving you two options for how to wear the hat (if you skip the pom-pom)! The pattern shows up best with a solid or semi-solid colorway. Choose a size approximately 1-3” smaller than your actual head circumference.
This unisex hat is worked in one piece in the round from the brim upward. flyWHEEL yarn from Harrisville Designs, a beautifully tweedy and warm wool yarn in a wide range of colors, makes the texture of this cable and rib hat sing, but any sportweight yarn will work nicely. The adult size is shown with about 3” of negative ease.
Please note:
» the brim was designed to be doubled up, but can be knit shorter or taller as desired; and
» you’ll need additional yardage for the optional pom-pom (approximately 25-45 yards, depending on its size).
