Sure of You Headband
The Sure of You headband is a simple stockinette & reverse stockinette headband with a mock i-cord edging and flexible button closure at the back. The ridges remind me of Piglet’s belly and thus of my dear friend Megg (see more details about the name below).
The headband is knit flat in one piece and includes 2 buttonholes to make it flexible for sizing. The mock I-cord edging I use on many of my sideways-knit shawl designs makes the headband sit flat and gives a really polished look. A video tutorial for the set-up is included.
This pattern has been tech edited & test knit.
All instructions are written and charted.
Yarn: Kraemer Yarns Mauch Chunky 100% Wool. 120 yards / 110 meters. 3.53 ounces / 100 grams. Shown in Colorway: Juju Fruit. Sample in Size Large used 1 skein: 55 grams, 66 yards / 60.5 meters.
Notions: 2 stitch markers, locking stitch marker (optional) to mark right side, 1 button (1.5-2 in / 3.75-5 cm), sewing needle and thread, blocking pins, tapestry needle to weave in ends.
Pattern Note: If you are new to making buttonholes or unsure of how stretchy your fabric will be, you may want to make a swatch to ensure the 3-stitch buttonhole is the right size for your button. Alternate option, you could use 2 buttons with either 2 buttonholes or even just one. Clever knitters should feel free to modify!
Sizes: X-Small (Small, Medium, Large): Sizes are measured using the length of fabric between the button placement to first and second buttonhole.

About the Name
In high school in the 1990s, my friends Kris and Megg and I were obsessed with all things Classic Pooh. We bought figurines, notebooks, greeting cards and mugs, even comforters to bring to college (much to our parents’ dismay). One day, Megg and I got to musing about how we could see ourselves in the characters. Megg, more nervous and timid; Me, the eternal optimist. Neither of us recalls the exact origins, but since then, every card I address to her is signed “To Piglet” “Love, Poohbear.” Sometimes, having a character--a familiar, friendly image--to associate with a loved one makes them even more dear.
One of my favorite exchanges between Pooh & Piglet is below. It is the inspiration for the name of this pattern:
Piglet sidled up to Pooh from behind. “Pooh!” he whispered.
“Yes, Piglet”
“Nothing,“ said Piglet. “I just wanted to be sure of you.” - A. A. Milne
