Sunflower Afghan Square
This Sunflower Afghan Square was designed for the 2015 Mystery Lapghan CAL.
I was inspired by a flower clip I made back in July, but I wanted to do a 6 petal version. As you can see, that didn’t work out as well as I hoped, but will be revisited in the coming weeks. For now, I have a smaller sunflower in this afghan square.
I also didn’t intend on tacking down the petals, but they were curling so I got creative with the round. It led to the forming of the front post stitches that create a fun texture and visual.
Materials:
- Same amount of three colors of worsted weight yarn - I used Hobby Lobby’s I Love This Yarn in Brown, Yellow and White
- I9/5.5mm Crochet Hook
- Tapestry Needle for Weaving in Ends
Material Notes:
Yarn Alternatives: Red Heart’s With Love. If using Vanna’s Choice, you may need to go down a hook size to meet my gauge; If using Red Heart’s Super Saver, Bernat’s Super Value, Deborah Norville’s Everyday Soft, or Caron’s Simply Soft, you may need to go down two hook sizes to meet my gauge.
You could easily work this up in one, two, three or four colors! All up to you.
Abbreviations:
SC - Single Crochet

This pattern is labeled intermediate due to the use of post stitches, but with the photos included, an advanced beginner could work this project.
