The Summertime Citrus Shawl
This shawl was as a birthday present for my sister-in-law who lives in the UK. While it is winter here in Australia I think of those long summer evenings in England where the sun does not set till late. Here you have a top down triangular shawl knitted using 4ply cotton. Cotton gives lace such great stitch definition and in 4ply is just the right weight and warmth for those cooler summer evenings (wherever you are)!
Finished size 160cm across and 80cm (approx.) along centre spine after blocking.
Gauge 21 stitches and 28 rows to 10cm over washed and blocked pattern with 4.00mm needles (although gauge is not critical as this is a shawl if you wish to get the same finished size then a swatch is recommended).
Each ball is knitted until used up except for the last colour. So if the yarn you select has a different meterage/yardage then your stripe length will be different. Just keep knitting until you don’t have enough yarn to complete a row then change over to the next colour. Of course you can do this all in one colour … or two or three or more.
You will need
Required:
- 1 x 4.00mm 80cm circular needle
- 4 x balls of 4ply cotton 170m each (the colours used here are Morris & Sons Avalon 4ply: In order of knitting - Amber 4448, Topaz 4410, Citrine 4411 and Pearl 4404). Each ball is knitted until used up except for the last colour. So if the yarn you select has a different meterage/yardage then your stripe length will be different. Just kept knitting until you don’t have enough yarn to complete a row then change over to the next colour.
- 1 x tapestry needle for weaving ends.
