Simple cardigan features colorful stripes around the lower edge that were inspired by the ponchos of Lake Titicaca. Two strands of yarn are held together throughout. Each chevron section is worked on the bias with increases each side of one slip-stitch column and decreases each side of the next slip-stitch column to create the zigzag effect.

Sizing Note: Measurements shown are with a 1¾ (1½)“ / 4.5 (3.8) cm gap at center front. Amount of gap may be adjusted to accommodate smaller or larger sizes.

Yarn: Fingering-weight, super fine yarn

  • About 250 (300) grams each of two dark main colors (A1 and A2)
  • About 40 grams each of three bright colors (B, C, and D)
  • Model in book used 5 (6) skeins for A1, and 1 skein each for B, C, and D, of Isager Alpaca 2 (50% merino, 50% alpaca; 247m / 270yds; 50g / 1.76oz); and 5 (6) skeins for A2 of Isager Wool 1 (100% wool; 310m / 340yds; 50g / 1.76oz)

Needles:

  • Size 4 mm / US 6 straight needles, and a set of 2 double-pointed needles.
  • Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
