It is inspired by the stupa or chedi structures of Buddhist temple complexes in Asia. The buildings are half dome shaped and typically topped with graceful spires encircled with glittering gold bells and adorned with the stylistic flower carvings and gold stencilled flame motifs. I’ve taken inspiration from these designs for this pattern.

This pattern is designed specifically for silk as a sideways stole to allow the lace pattern to open up as it hangs on the shoulders. I have incorporated my own stitch motifs as well as variations of Estonian lace motifs and stitches. It is an intermediate level pattern.

Nupps vs. Beads vs. Purl stitches. You can use these stitches interchangeably in the pattern simply by interpretting the chart differently.

Finished size: : My sample for the magazine was done using 11 pattern repeats of the chart and a 3.75mm needle, the finished stole was 38cmx132cm (15”x52”)and used only 458m(500yds) of my handspun silk/cashmere beaded laceweight, but any laceweight yarn can be used.
