I always feel that longer sweaters need some shaping, and this garment has an unexpected element to serve that purpose: buckles!

To work as shown, you will choose 4 colours (see notes) in either fingering or dk weight (because the pattern is offered in both). (You could, of course, make this garment in only two colours!)

The stats on this page only allow me to enter one yarn, gauge, and total yardage. So here is where I can say that the second yarn offered in the pattern is Jamieson DK wt, with which you will use 3.5mm and 4.0mm needles to achieve a gauge of 20 sts x 28 rows.

Here is how you will choose your colours:

1. Choose the colour you like best to have near your face: this becomes C1—in these garments, the turquoise or gold.
2. Choose a second colour that looks good with C1: this becomes C2.
3. Choose a third colour that looks good with both, preferably something darker: this becomes C3.
4. Choose a neutral that looks good with all three: this becomes C4. (In the turquoise/green version, off-white is C4: in the golf/brown version, dark brown is C4. This illustrate that your “neutral” can be either light or dark.)
