Stranger Things are about to be on your needles…Make one for yourself, or for your favorite fan of the show.

Knit entirely in the round, the outer colorwork pattern is worked first, and features an alphabet lined up with a string of Christmas lights. The chart for the inner portion of the cowl inverts the MC and CC for what becomes the Upside Down version of the same alphabet design.

Use duplicate stitch with scraps of brightly colored yarn to light up whichever letters you choose. Have fun--and Run!

The cowl is constructed by casting on provisionally, and working in the round. You will first work the outer colorwork pattern, then work a few rounds in the MC, and then complete the cowl by working the inner colorwork chart. Once the inner chart is completed, the inner portion of the cowl is folded inward, and the live sts from the end are joined to the live sts from the CO by either grafting or using a three-needle bind off. If you wish, you may use a longtail CO instead of a provisional CO, and sew the two ends together.

Note: I’m calling this an Intermediate project. Due to the nature of the creepy alphabet, this is not a simple chart, so take your time with it! Long stretches of a single color are labeled on the chart with a small # indicating the number of sts in the stretch. Several long floats will require that you twist the floating yarn with the working yarn, but all floats will be on the inner side of the cowl and out of sight:)
