This winter hat was designed to keep your ears warm, while giving your ponytail a place to go, and featuring a bill, that instead of falling flat on your face, will keep your raincoat hood up and out of your eyes. If you don’t have a ponytail, instructions are also given for a closed back.

It incorporates a plastic sun visor to keep the bill stiff and in place. First the bill and hat top are knitted; then the bill lining. Finally stitches are picked up and ear flaps are knitted. Lastly the visor is inserted and the band sewn closed around it.

One size fits most adult heads from 21” to 23” (53 to 59 cm) around.

Although some of the steps are challenging, an intermediate knitter should be fine with this pattern.

It uses 150 yds (137 m) heavy worsted / aran weight yarn. You may use any yarn that gives the correct gauge. 19 sts/4” (10 cm). You will also need a plastic sun visor.
