Stone Fences uses three different yarns in changing combinations to form interlocking stripes, with a look reminiscent of dry stone walls. Yarns are mixed and worked solo in the same row, giving an intarsia effect without the intarsia, while subtle shaping provides a nice fit. Stone Fences is worked flat and seamed at the back; pattern instructions are written only, and include instructions for adjusting the circumference. The ‘About the yarns’ section describes the structure and properties of the yarns used in the sample; use the suggested yarns or make your own mix!

• Shibui Knits Reed, Fog: 1 skein
• Shibui Knits Cima, Tar: 1 skein
• Shibui Knits Silk Cloud, Graphite: 1 skein

• US6/4mm or size needed for correct gauge

I designed Stone Fences to use the Cima and Silk Cloud left over from Slouch 1 and Slouch 2. I used almost all of the Cima and most of the Silk Cloud, so if you’re doing the same, you may need a bit extra of at least one of those yarns. For a different look, you could use the leftover Pebble instead of Cima or Silk Cloud for part of the cowl, or you could play around with your own combination of textures and colours.

If substituting yarns, choose one light fingering weight and two laceweight yarns with different textures and subtly different colours that give you a fabric you like at gauge. You will need approximately 228 yds/209m of the Reed substitute, 138 yds/126m of the Cima substitute, and 218 yds/199m of the Silk Cloud substitute, or 584 yds/534m in total.
