This design is the third of a series—twelve explorations of different knit-purl stitch patterns throughout 2025. This month, we’re looking at a stitch pattern that is sometimes called Double Moss, sometimes Little Boxes. I’m referring to it as “Little Boxes,” and I’m going to suggest you play with the size of the boxes as you think of ways to use this stitch pattern. The pattern document includes general instructions for working Little Boxes flat and in the round, as well as specific instructions for a sample square, and a cowl. It also includes a few designer ideas to help inspire your own designs featuring the Little Boxes stitch pattern.

The techniques you will need to know, or learn, to complete this project are:

• cast on and bind off;
• knit and purl;
• working in the round.
