This scarf is knit the “long way”, casting on a large number of
stitches but only knitting a few rows.

The simple lace pattern quickly works up into short ladders--
small stepladders! When the body of the scarf is done, the ends
are picked up to knit on a quick finishing ruffle with a fun geometric structure.

The scarf length can be easily changed by adding or subtracting 5 stitch repeats of the lace pattern.
