Stellaluna
Stella and luna (Latin origin)—star and moon—provide the name for this jacket, which uses a star stitch pattern with colors that are varied yet blended, alternated with a gray, reminiscent of moon dust. Although different, they play quite nicely together. Janell Cannon’s book of the same name brings to mind the advantages of friendship and the importance of getting along.
Stellaluna was designed as a companion pattern to the article for horizontal grafted buttonholes made in a band with a facing. It is worked in pieces from the bottom up, with two yarns providing pops of color in a semi-stripe pattern. Don’t try to match colors in the pieces perfectly or you will go crazy. But getting the colors in the same general area on the front pieces and sleeves helps with a classic look. If you’re a free spirit, just start a ball and let the colors fall where they may!
