The mittens are knitted in the round, and the final few stitches are grafted together at the top of the hand. The thumb is picked up after and knitted on to the body of the glove. You can also crochet the picot cuff edging and skip this step in the knitting, or use your own favourite method to create the picot edging for the cuff.

These mittens are knitted in Zealana Heron, a beautifully warm, worsted weight (10 ply) yarn. It is knitted using smaller needles than usual for gauge to create a thick, insulated mitten. The possum fibre in the yarn blooms when you wash it, which contributes significantly to the insulation factor.

Normal gauge for this yarn is 18 sts over 10cm/4” on 4.5mm (US 7) needles
