Starry Night Chapeau
This hat is worked like most are, from the brim up. Use your favourite circular knitting method, whether that’s double pointed needles or circular needles. The brim is ribbed using a smaller needle for a good fit. The ribbing is followed by a textured, twisted stitch pattern. This stitch pattern has a tight gauge and requires the knitter to switch to a larger needle size. The twisted stitch pattern is followed by a stocking stitch cap which will be knit with the same needle size as the brim. It is a unisex toque that can be knit in many sizes from baby on up to adult sizes.
Sizes: newborn (baby, toddler, child-adult small, adult medium, adult large) Finished dimensions: 28 (31.75, 35.5, 40, 43, 45.75) cm / 11 (12.5, 14, 15.5, 17, 18) inches circumference Stretches to fit up to: 35.5 (40.5, 48.25, 54.5, 58.5, 63.5) cm /14 (16, 19, 21.5, 23, 25) inches circumference Materials: 45 (65, 100, 120, 130, 140) metres / 50 (70, 110, 130, 142, 153) yards light worsted weight yarn. We used single-ply merino wool from Riverside Studio, 205m/225yds 4mm or needle size to obtain gauge in 40cm / 16” circular and dpn or just dpn. Also 4.5mm or needle half size larger than gauge needles in either 40cm/ 16” circular or dpn. The Newborn and Baby size due to the small circumference will require dpn (no circular needles) in both 4mm (or gauge needle) and 4.5mm (or half size bigger). Stitch marker Gauge with smaller needles: 23 sts = 10cm/4 inches in stocking stitch
