PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THIS IS A CHARTED DESIGN.

This baby blanket incorporates a traditional Estonian stitch pattern and edging. The lovely stitch pattern used for the main part is a flower like stitch that utilises the Estonian star stitch technique as a base for the petals.

The construction involves first knitting the edging, followed by the main part which is then placed on a spare needle whilst the other end of the edging is knitted. The two pieces are then grafted together. Both the top and bottom edgings are provisionally cast on and later cast off using a lace cast off to ensure a neat, even and stretchy finish for blocking.

If preferred, a plain garter stitch edging can be used instead in which case a few rows garter stitch would be knitted before and after the main stitch pattern and no grafting or provisional cast on would be required.

Support on techniques, etc, used to knit this blanket is available via the designer or via the Estonian Lace Christening Shawl KAL Group.
