Starfish Shells
Lacy crocheted vest with front button closures. Neck is made square to fold back into lapels.
The designer dcp published this twice, with different pics, yarns, and gauges. First it was published as a pamphlet that could be sold separately for $6 (in 2004), then later the designer bought out the Crochet Fantasy magazine when that magazine’s original publisher was going to cease publication. She then placed a slightly different version of the pattern in that magazine.
The yarn information provided in the magazine version does not say the Indigo Denim yarn manufacturer, only that it is (or was) available on cones of 1968 yards. No information was given as to how much is needed per size. The pamphlet version calls for the Katia yarn (typo’d as ‘Katie’) and does provide this information.
The instructions themselves are well written. There are actually 2 different lacy shell patterns being used; one for the top 3/4s of the garment, and another frames the bottom 1/4 of it.
Gauge for the Indigo Denim version is given as 3 shells + 3sc = 5”, and 5 shells depth = 4-3/4”.
Gauge for the Katia yarn version is given as 3 shells + 3 sc = 2-3/4”, 5 shells depth = 4-1/2”.
A schematic is provided of the garment with both versions, with information pertaining to how many shells make up each front, underarm and the back area. This is much like a machine-knitting pattern schematic and is very helpful.
There are charts for both of the lacey stitch patterns.
