Starburst Cowl
Things You’ll Need:
- Sock/fingering weight minis/stash/leftovers (yarn that’s approx 365m/400yds per 100g). You’ll need around 15g/55m/60yds x 16 shades to get the same balance of colours as the sample pictured.
- The first granny round uses approx 0.5 grams/2 yards.
- The second granny round uses approx 1 gram/3.5 yards.
- Main Colour (edging) is an unknown high-twist sock weight yarn. You will need approx 35g/128m/140 yds of the MC, some of which is used in the squares.
- 3mm hook.
US & UK versions are downloaded at the same time.
Tension/gauge isn’t essential in this pattern but will affect the amount of yarn used.
Finished size (blocked)
Circumference: approx 70 cm/27 inches.
Depth: approx 42 cm/16.5 inches.
Each square measures: 4cm - 4.5cm /1.5 - 1.75 inches. There’s a slight variation depending on the yarn brand used.
This pattern uses a Join As You Go (JAYG) technique. Feel free to sew your squares together, if you prefer.
Don’t be too precious about the placement of colours. The only rule I imposed on myself was not to place the same shade next to itself. If in doubt, use the photos as a rough guide.
I use different stitches/techniques of starting each round depending on what looks or works best. These are explained in the Special Stitches section and demonstrated in the video tutorial.
