Star Tidy
Pattern includes an octagonal block, square and half square (triangle) inserts to fill in between the octagons, and a lace border (page 50-51).
This pattern appeared in various 19th century sources such as Cornelia Mee’s Manual of Needlework, 1845, believed by Ms. Phillips to be the earliest version.
Octagon knit with five double-pointed needles from the center out.
