This stunningly colorful and intricately knit project was inspired by the stained glass panel “The Four Seasons”, (1978) by Leonard French at La Trobe University Sculpture Park in Melbourne, Australia (see photograph #4 in our series). The blanket is composed of 19 pieces: 4 squares with sun, 1 square with cross, 1 small triangle, 6 big triangles, and 3 rectangles, and 4 moss stitch border pieces.

The blanket, as originally conceived by Shui Kuen Kozinski, is knit holding 2 strands of worsted weight wool together, for a project gauge of 11 st to 10 cm/4″. As you can see in photos #1 and 2, it is one of four squares of its original glass inspiration.

It was also expertly knit and photographed by Ravelry test knitter jenn1feranne, using 2 strands of fingering weight yarn held together for a project gauge of 21 st to 10 cm/4″. Jenn1’s final blanket incorporated all 4 squares depicted in the stained glass original, with a final measurement of 127 x 127 cm (50″ x 50″) — see third photograph.

Materials: 19 colors for blanket pieces approx. 100 m (109 yds) of 15 colors, 200 m (218 yds) of 3 colors, 300 m (327 yds) of 1 color, plus approx. 1000 m (1090 yds) for border of elann.com Highland Wool or Majesty Worsted – see pattern and photos for specific colors.
