Stained Glass Cap and Mittens
This elegant winter set was inspired by Danish designs that include garter-stitch “buds” framed by garter and slipped stitches in a contrasting thinner yarn. A very fine kid mohair/silk yarn provides a delicate edge framing the sportweight angora/wool blend “buds.” To create a yarn that would shift colors gently, Carol Rhoades made a two-ply yarn using two sets of 12-inch color segments of space-dyed roving for the hat and two sets of 4 ½ inch color segments for each mitten. The occasional color overlap in plying helped the yarn blend smoothly from one color to the next.
