Staggered Ladders Hats
A positive-ease hat knitted bottom-up in the round, with staggered drop-stitch ladders spiralling round the head.
This pattern is especially designed to showcase short-repeat handpainted yarns, but also lends itself well to being made with alternating stripes or as a rainbow, as the longer form is made in seven sections after the ribbing. The pattern accommodates yarns from worsted to chunky and fits into one 100g skein of Worsted yarn.
Two versions of this hat are given in the pattern - the full-length pointed stocking cap with seven sections (four drop stitch and three stockinette) and a suggested way to bind off earlier and produce a more rounded ‘everyday’ version of the hat entirely covered by dropstitch.
As a bonus, the pattern includes instructions on how to knit your own dragon tail barb to attach to the end of the longer version of the hat instead of a pom-pom.
