Spring Rain
3 different sizes are made from 3 different gauges. Please choose the right yarn/gauge for your size. (Please note that the yarn choices given above are mainly for Size 1 or 2.)
Spring Rain is a very versatile and comfortable knitted top. A crossover between pullover, vest and poncho.
A series of yarn overs create an interesting rain-shower-like pattern and the top is very flowy and relaxed in fit.
The neckline and bottom ribbing are shaped with short rows, no seaming and no pick up stitches, just increase with a series of yarn overs.
So once you finish shaping the neckline, this is a very simple and relaxing project with ALL Knit sts :)
A wool based yarn will give this top a more pullover/vest/poncho feeling. A cotton or linen yarn will transform it into a breezy summer top.
Pattern before 3/13/23 - Please work w&t: K sts / slip with yarn in back. P sts / slip with yarn in front.
GAUGE
4”x4” after wet blocking in stockinette st with main size needles.
Size 1 - 22 sts, 32 rows
Size 2 - 21 sts, 30 rows
Size 3 - 20 sts, 30 rows
SIZE
This top is a very relaxed fit.
I normally wear XS or S for a top and Size 1 fits perfectly.
If you normally wear a L size, Size 1 will still give you plenty of ease, but not as flowy as Size 2.
Back length (including ribbing and bottom ribbing) - 22.5 (24, 26)“
Bottom circumference - 54 (56.5, 59)”
If you choose to knit Size 1 and want to make it longer - you can add more rounds after separating sleeves and body, or you can knit more rounds in between yarn over increases.
YARN
The sample showing is Size 1, knitted with Woolfolk “Tynd”- super soft and drapes beautifully. (This yarn is listed as fingerling weight, but suggested gauge is 21~25 sts / 4”.)
Please take time to check the gauge and have the right gauge for your size.
Recommended yarn
Size 1 - Sports weight/ Woolfolk “Tynd”, Malabrigo “Arroyo”
Size 2 - DK weight/ Anzura “Cricket”, Hedgehog fiber “DK”
Size 3 - DK ~ Light worsted weight / Malabrigo “Rios”, Anzula “worsted” (If you prefer to have a lighter fabric, please choose DK weight yarn.)
NEEDLES
Needle size will vary depending on your size and yarn choice.
You need 3 different sizes of needles - main needles, small needles and neckband needles.
DESIGN NOTE
- If you want to make this top longer, you can add more rounds after you separating body and sleeves, or you can add more all K rounds in between YO increases.
- If you choose to knit size 2 or 3 and if you want to retain smaller neck opening, please use 3-size smaller needles to work the neckband. (The pattern calls for 2-size smaller needles.)
