Spooktacular Mix and Match Socks
Ready to make your own completely unique Halloween socks?
First choose your motifs - this pattern contains full instructions on how to mix and match from 28 motifs. Go spoopy (cute spooky) with candy corns, pumpkins, moon and stars, and lollipops or go scary with spiders, skulls, eyeballs, or zombie hands.
Then choose as many (or as few) colors as you want -
- one main background color or stripes?
- contrast cuff/ heel/ toes?
- traditional Halloween colors or something different? The choice is yours!
This pattern consists of 6 pdfs: one containing the written pattern instructions (including full instructions on how to mix and match motifs) and charts for each of the 4 sizes, one Short Row Special Techniques pdf containing photo tutorials covering the required techniques for the heel, and one Example Socks pdf. This last pdf contains complete Size M UK size 7 charts for both the orange and the green socks pictured and is included as an illustration of how to plan your own socks or for those who just wish to knit either of these pairs.
Method: These stranded colorwork socks are knit in the round from the cuff down with a German short row heel.
These socks can be knitted on dpns, by magic loop, or on a short circular (in which case you will still need dpns for the heel and toe decreases).
Please note the colorwork motifs in this pattern are charted, not written out. You need to be prepared to read and work from charts in order to enjoy knitting this design.
Size: This pattern is written in 4 sizes. All instructions that differ depending on the size you are knitting are color coded and indicated with parentheses like this: S (M, L, and XL).
Size - Sock Circumference - Approx. UK Sizes
S - 7” (18 cm) - Children’s 12.5 - 3.5, Adult 1 - 4
M - 8” (20.5 cm) - Adult 4.5 - 7.5
L - 9” (23 cm) - Adult 8 – 10.5
XL - 9¾” (25 cm) - Adult 11 - 12.5
The leg and foot length are completely customisable, full instructions for this are included.
Yarn: You can use any 4 ply (fingering) sock yarn that you like and with which you can get tension/ gauge. You will need at least two contrasting colors.
Please note I do not recommend using yarns with a high cotton content as cotton doesn’t stretch as much as other fibers and this will affect the fit of your socks.
The amounts of each color required will depend on which size you are knitting, which charts you choose to knit, and how you choose to use your colors in the sock.
