You know when we were younger and our parents would tell us not to play with our food!? Well, I’m older now. I still don’t play with my food but I DO play with stitches! Yep…and I would like to introduce you to a stitch that I have fallen in love with, a Split HDC! Perhaps for some of you it’s getting re-acquainted!? I have done quite a bit of research online and throughout my stitch books. I cannot find a name for it.

Although I was unable to find out anything about this stitch, all was not lost. I was able to find a lot about a single crochet stitch done in this manner. It is known as a split single crochet. So, I shall simply refer to this stitch as the Split Half Double Crochet.

There is nothing complicated about this stitch. Whether working it straight in rows or in the round it is worked just like any other half double crochet. The only difference is where you insert your hook. Seriously…that is the only difference!
