Spectrum Tam
Interweave SKU: EP1728
Pattern Description from Interweave Knits, Winter 2008:
Beverly Roberts makes the simplest knitting patters - a two-row chevron stitch, slip-stitch panels, and garter stitch-set the blending colors of the Spectrum Tam and Scarf in motion. A mohair halo reflects light and smooths color transitions. New colors radiate in rounds from the crown.
Finished Size:
Scarf: 7” wide and 52” long.
Hat: 19¼ (21½)“ band circumference. Hat shown measures 19¼”.
Yarn: Rowan Kidsilk Haze (70% super kid mohair, 30% silk; 229 yd [209 m]/25 g): #628 cocoa (A), #595 liqueur (orange-red; B), #627 blood (C), #626 putty (light taupe; D), #632 hurricane (blue; E), #639 anthracite (gray; F), #629 fern (G), #597 jelly (chartreuse; H), 1 ball of each will make both hat and scarf. Yarn distributed by Westminster Fibers.
Needles: Size 6 (4 mm): 16” circular (cir). Size 5 (3.75 mm): 16” cir and set of 4 or 5 double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.
Notions: Waste yarn; markers (m); tapestry needle; 3 yd dark blue Rainbow Elastic for hat band.

Notes:
-
Color combinations are referred to using color letters, e.g., AA is two strands of A, AB is one strand of A and one strand of B held together.
-
Knit in loose ends as you work to avoid having many ends to weave in during finishing.
-
Both scarf and hat will appear smaller than indicated dimensions, but will block readily to dimensions. Usually hat ribbing would be knit with a smaller needle; however, since this yarn is less elastic than a 100% wool yarn, the ribbing is worked with the same size needle as the hat, with the desired elasticity and secure fit provided by threading Rainbow Elastic through the ribbing.
