Some of the earliest lace knitting pattern stitches come from Spain, where knitting was done in the round and there were no plain rows between the lace rows.

Although this blanket is knit back and forth, the ornate, delicate lace hints at the mantillas worn by Spanish dancers. This heirloom blanket is meant to be a special gift for a first grandchild, a long-awaited addition to the family, or perhaps for a best friend’s new little one. This project is perfect for the experienced lace knitter.

ERRATA: Work all rows of the lace pattern 3 times on each half.
