These mitts feature an unusual cable pattern that decorates the back of the hand.
The mitts are crocheted entirely in slip stitches, using the back loop only slip stitch. The cable pattern is symmetical for the left hand and the right hand.
The cable is worked horizontally - a technique that I invented and modified for these mittens.

The pattern includes written instructions and step-by-step picture tutorials for

  • the back loop only slip stitch
  • color changes
  • short rows (for the thumb)
  • horizontal cables (with lots of pictures on how to make sorted cables - they are way easier to make than they look)
  • an invisible seam.

size: The pattern is written for size M. The elastic stitch used makes the mittens fit most hands. Instructions are given to adjust the size to larger or smaller hands or to different yarn weights.

skills: The pattern is self-contained. All stitches and techniques you need to know to crochet the mittens are explained with step-by-step picture tutorials. Still, it helps if you practice both slip stitch crochet, the cabling and the invisible seam before you start with the mittens.

skill level: advanced

yarn:

  • 20 g of Hedgehog Fibers Sock in the colorway “cinder” (70 m/ 77 yards)
  • 20 g of Hedgehog Fibers Sock in the colorway “graphit” (70 m/ 77 yards)

hook: 3.5 mm (US size E)

also needed: Darning needle for invisible seaming

The pattern is available in English and German.
