Something Fishy Baby Cardigan
Something Fishy is a yoked baby cardigan with a nautical theme. It is worked flat to the underarms, sleeves are worked separately and attached, and then the yoke is worked flat as one piece. Button bands are added at the end. The construction of this sweater is basic and requires little finishing work. The stranded knitting patterns in the yoke are also simple (only two colors at a time, no long carries, basic motifs), making this a good choice for a “first yoke sweater” project.
This pattern includes four sizes: 0-6 months (20.25” chest), 6-12 months (22.25” chest), 12-18 months (24.75” chest), 18-24 months (26.5” chest)
The gauge is 25 st and 34 rows over 4” in stockinette stitch. I used a needle one size larger over the yoke pattern to get the proper gauge.
For this sweater, I used Knit Picks Brava Sport (100% Premium Acrylic; 273 yards/100g). You will need: MC (Sky #25684), 1 (2, 2, 2) balls; C1 (Solstice Heather #25672), 1 ball; C2 (Clarity #26368), 1 ball; C3 (Alfalfa #25687), 1 ball, or equivalent amounts in a sport weight yarn. You will also need a 24” or 32” circular and double pointed needles in size US 5 or whatever size necessary to get the gauge, and one size larger needle for the sweater yoke.
This pattern includes written instructions for the four sweater sizes listed above, full color charts, color photographs, and a schematic.
